Bankruptcy and InsolvencyThe Insolvency Practice Group has extensive experience in security enforcement, financial reorganizations, debt restructurings, debtor and creditor rights, forbearance/standstill arrangements, receivership and related matters for financial institutions, court and privately appointed receivers, interim receivers and liquidators, landlords, suppliers, trustees in bankruptcy, corporate and individual borrowers and other interested parties. Working in concert with a dedicated team of lawyers from our Litigation Group, we have acted in many of the largest insolvency related proceedings and workouts which have occurred in the Canadian business community. Working in concert with our Litigation Group team members, we have been involved in several leading cases involving lender liability, commercial fraud and other complex matters. In the retail sector, our Insolvency Practice Group conceptualized an innovative approach to the liquidation of the Town and Country retail chain involving the use of various insolvency related legislation, which has since been emulated by various other Canadian retail chains. In the institutional sector, the Group's significant experience includes practical and timely advice on a regular basis to the special asset management group of Royal Bank of Canada, a major Canadian financial institution. Our group is pleased to have been designated by Royal Bank of Canada as designated counsel in lending, litigation and bankruptcy/insolvency/work out matters. Headed by Mr. Jules Berman, the members of our Insolvency Practice Group participate regularly as bar admissions instructors and lecturers, program leaders and authors of publications on insolvency related topics sponsored by professional, industrial and private organizations.
